Biologic Allograft (BA)

(tissues derived from the female placenta and umbilical cord; these are often, incorrectly, referred to as stem cells)

The amniotic membrane (the innermost layer of the placenta,) as well as, the umbilical cord contain high amounts of pro-healing cells and signaling chemicals. The tissues can be harvested at the time of child birth and processed so that these cells and chemicals can be isolated and injected into certain areas of the human body to promote healing.

Platelet-Rich
Plasma (PRP) including Platelet Lysate (PL)

Platelets are one of the many components of your biology involved in healing. These cells are best known for their role in clotting and they also regulate fundamental mechanisms involved in the healing process including cellular migration, proliferation and angiogenesis.

In PRP treatments, those platelets are taken from your own blood and returned to your body (guided by imaging) at a later date in a highly concentrated injection to a specific area to help facilitate healing.

PRP treatments replicate, in a concentrated manner, your body’s own response to soft tissue damage. Improvements in pain are not guaranteed, but many patients report reduced pain within a few weeks with ongoing relief as the body continues to heal.  Ultrasound and MRI have shown the dramatic increase in healing in the weeks following PRP treatments in some patients.

Lasers have long been used for pain management due to their potential to help your body deal with aging and stress which causes cellular level changes in how you use oxygen. Lasers can be helpful in the following ways:

Recently, in a double blinded placebo control study (Leal et al. 2014) reported a decrease pain and increase in function in patients with knee pain.

While no treatment can promise immediate relief to every patient, laser treatments can be an important component of easing pain and helping the body heal.
